14th August 2005 - Event Report: Fire & Ice, Aghadowey Raceway (for Flat 2 The Mat Magazine)

Event: Fire & Ice, Aghadowey Raceway, Northern Ireland

Date: Sunday 14th August 2005

This past Sunday saw the second Fire and Ice of 2005 take place at Aghadowey. The country venue, near Kilrea, is arguably the main home of diffing events of late in the north. The sun was out and although the attendance was down a good bit of previous days there the action kicked off as normal, no doubt the summer holidays and other events took a toll on those attending.

Sierra's, Carlton's, Volvo's and Corolla's shredded their tyres competing in various events like the rear wheel drive challenge and fastest laps. The fastest lap was won by Stanley McKeown in Caroline's Corolla and the rear wheel drive challenge was won by Alan McBride in his M3 powered BMW.

The show and shine brought about some crazy entertainment as always as a few people stripped almost naked and ran around the track. All this madness in a bid to win the peoples choice for the best car. This is done by the crowd judging which cars stay and go so the drivers have to do something a bit crazy to stay in with a chance of winning.

The peoples choice should not be confused with the show and shine which already had it's winners picked.
