Event: Halfords/Ripspeed Show, Craigavon, Northern Ireland

Date:
Sunday 21st August 2005

For the 2nd year in succession the Ripspeed guys at Halfords in Craigavon decided to run a show and shine for the local car enthusiasts. This year was different - this year they set out with an idea in their heads and made it happen - to make the show much bigger and better!

With more effort going into the planning, promotion and organisation it promised to be a great family day out for all. The best part of all was the free entrance for spectators, free entrance for the diffing competitors, free entrance for all the show and shine guys and girls! This was always going to pull the crowds along from day one. It did also help that the Ardboe Diff was postponed due to some resurfacing work, as many who would have made the run to Ardboe now set their sights on Craigavon.

At the side of the Halfords building this year we could find some live action where a lot of Toyota twin cams (AE86’s), BMW's and some other rear wheel drive wagons showed off in a specially cordoned off area in the car park. There were probably more twincams in attendance than has been seen in one place in Ireland for a few years now, all thanks to a few people with good contacts. But still the stars of the shows where the twin cam guys who showed every one how to go round traffic cones in style.

As soon as the show and shine cars started to turn up at the car park outside the store, the organisers were on hand to get details of cars for the competition and also give out a free goody bag which was full of bits and pieces found inside the doors of Halfords.

This wasn’t why people came to the event but it was a nice surprise for every one to get handed some free stuff and not have to hand over money for once. There were a lot of good cars on show, everything from Fiesta's and Corsas right on up to a Bentley Continental. From the standard to the heavily modified - everything was on show for people to look around. A lot of cars which were found at the previous days PCC show made a weekend of it and attended both events which was good to see.

All in all a great fun day out for all the family, unluckily the heavens opened and it rained for most of the day, but that didn’t dampen the spirits of every one who turned up to watch and to show off their cars and skills.
