Event:
Edition 38 VW
Show, Overstone Park, Northampton, England
Dates:
Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th September 2005
To make the Edition 38 show it meant pulling a through-the-night drive to head down to Northampton so that we could make the most of the day’s action before heading onto Silverstone on Sunday morning for Trax.
As we made our way closer to Overstone Park we began seeing more and more cars of the VAG variety (Volkswagen Audi Group), with many being kitted out with nice rims and subtle bodykits and of course the old skool VW owners were out in force too with their very subtle concours style chariots.
We arrived around 5am on Saturday morning, and it was clear that many others had the same idea to get down early as we found hundreds of tents at the end of the field where many were making the most of the shuteye before the show kicked off in only a few hours time.
The Saturday of the Edition 38 show is always the warmup for Sunday which is when all the big VW players come along with their rides, but even with that being the case the quality of cars in attendance was top notch, with every make and model of VW ever known to man making an appearance. From Mk1 Golf’s right through to a Lambo door’d Mk5 GTI, from old beetle’s to the modern day remake as well as some classic’s from the likes of Karmann Ghia’s to Trekker’s.
All weekend long around the main section of show cars you could also find many of the big traders in the scene selling their wares at discount show prices, with many of the owners in attendance snapping up a good bargain or two over the weekend.
One great element that this show had was a stage area that allowed the owners to drive their car up the ramp onto it, and then be interviewed by a member of the event staff in front of the crowds of people out looking round the cars on show. It made for a very relaxed and friendly atmosphere and allowed the owners to explain to everyone how their own car came to be how it is today, whether that be the way in which it was modified or even a funny tale of how they came to own the car itself.
A great weekend outing for anyone with even the slightest interest in VW’s, one that many enthusiasts travel from not only around the UK but also from Europe to every year, so if it’s VAG cars that float your boat and control your wallet then I would recommend marking this one down in your diary for next year.
