Event: SWRC Track & Race Day, Aghadowey Racetrack, Northern Ireland

Dates: Saturday 24th September 2005

The Sideways Racing lads have been doing a great job throughout this year running several track & race day events at Aghadowey where anyone can come along, pay their cash and take their car either round the track or drag racing on the quarter mile.

This weekend’s event saw a little addition to the already popular SWRC track and race events however, namely several of the D1 Irish Drifting licence holders coming along to show everyone north of the border what's been the talk of the car scene down south over the last while thanks to some awesome driving demo's.  In attendance were the likes of Mark Luney who came a close second in this years D1 championship, Chubby who was at the wheel of a Gold 200SX this weekend and Alan McBride who had his BMW so far sideways that the “wide load” plates on it were for more than just decoration.

Without a doubt the D1 drifters were the stars of the show on the day, leaving many of the spectators in attendance puzzled how they could attack the corners so fast and still stay not only on track but also drift the corners perfectly with seemingly no effort at all, whereas some of the other cars on track would be giving it all they could and would end up a little too close to the tyres for comfort.

As well as the drifting demonstrations we had the normal track day fun, where all sorts of cars were thrown around the track as hard as their owners felt necessary, from Carlton’s, Manta’s, Evo’s and many more - whether flat out or clean sideways everyone was out there to enjoy themselves.

To settle the “my car’s faster than yours” debates the guys also run drag racing which puts everyone up against the stopwatch to see just how fast their car will run the quarter mile in.  All of this action meant that despite the freezing weather there was plenty going on throughout the day to keep everyone entertained...
