Event: Belgian Tuning Show, The Nekkerhall, Mechelen

Dates:
Saturday 12th & Sunday 13th November 2005

After having an event report submitted to the site from last years Belgian Tuning Show we decided to take a closer look at what the European modified crew had to offer. The event is held at the Nekkerhall in the large town of Mechelen which is located north of Brussels. The Nekkerhall is a massive hall with a domed roof; it is not very wide but is extremely long. The show consisted of two huge halls, one main stage, loads of trade stands and hundreds of modified cars ranging from classic American to modern day Japanese drift machines.

As the crowd entered the main hall they were struck with hundreds of the finest cars from Belgium, France, Holland, Germany and beyond. It was especially good to see a few familiar faces including the candy apple red Evo 8 that won the show and shine at the Weston Wheels Show in England earlier this year. He was flanked by a stand full of English modifiers and Cruising UK had another stand in the secondary hall. A special stand was dedicated to girl tuners, which was great to see, and they did not let themselves down with a host of cars easily good enough to rival the lads for prizes. My favourite was a slammed green VW Bora which attracted a lot of attention all day long. The familiar faces of the Fuel girls were once again present performing their garage dance routine to keep the crowds entertained. Their stage was based at the back of the hall and a few remote controlled cars and hydraulic low riders rounded off the display in that area.

Pioneer, along with other big names, had a big hand in the show with a selection of their latest ICE technology and demonstration boot builds. Then had their own small stage and played a few games to keep the crowd amused. A number of stands had clearly put a lot of work in by using palm trees, wood chippings and sand to create a beach effect. Coupled with neon lights and strobes they really stood out from the norm. Another big attraction was the Fast and the Furious stand which included Vin Diesels Charger, Brian’s Supra and the pink S2000 which was recently seen at the Cool Nights show in Dublin.

Being located in Europe and bordered by so many countries it means the modified car fans can drive to any show no matter how far away, unlike in Ireland where we have to organise boats or flights to get there. This would be a big part of why this show absolutely blew us away. When you think you have seen everything possible someone pushes the boat out that little bit further. Surely having a TV in your steering wheel is about as mad as the scene can go? No doubt we will find out soon enough……

A special thanks to everyone at the Belgian Tuning Salon especially Britt Bruynseels for looking after us, thanks to the Belgian people for being so friendly.
